Buford T. Abeldt, Sr., attended pharmacy school at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1969. In June of 1979, he opened Abeldt’s West Loop Pharmacy in Lufkin. In the 28 years at this location, Buford purchased two local pharmacies and a medical supply store and combined them with his pharmacy. After experiencing much growth in this location he built and moved into Abeldt’s Gaslight Pharmacy in October 2007. Abeldt’s Pharmacy was awarded the 2006 Small Business Award from the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce and “Best Pharmacist” by the Lufkin Daily News for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Professionally, Mr. Abeldt was appointed to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in May of 2008. He is a member of Texas Pharmacy Association, East Texas Pharmacy Association and National Community Pharmacists Association. Locally, Buford is active in the Kiwanis Club, serves on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce, and attends Lufkin’s First Baptist Church.

Nelson L. Showalter is a 1967 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy.  Showalter has been actively involved in both the practice and profession of Pharmacy. He is an independent community pharmacist and owner and operator of WilliamsonHughes Pharmacy in Harrisonburg, Virginia and owner of the Broadway Drug Center in Broadway, Virginia. He has written several articles on innovative practices in pharmacy and has been featured in several National Pharmacy Journals. He has spoken on numerous occasions at the NCPA (National Community Pharmacists Association) annual meeting on issues and trends in long term care pharmacies and has been a speaker at APHA (American Pharmaceutical Association) annual meeting. He has also lectured at the ASCP (American Society of Consultant Pharmacists) midyear and annual meetings.

Jay Watts is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Jay has owned and operated both Aiken Compounding Pharmacy/Family Pharmacy - South Aiken and Family Pharmacy for the past 23 years. His areas of cognizance include traditional pharmacy as well as Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Iontophoresis & Phonophoresis compounding, Veterinary Compounding, Pain Management, and Hospice Care.  He is certified in ACA Aseptic Technique, general compounding, advanced compounding, ACVP general veterinary compounding, ACVP advanced veterinary compounding, and has attended the ACVP canine and feline therapeutics class.  Jay has been a Fellow of the American College of Apothecaries for 10 years and has served as the Region 4 Director since 2004.  He is also a Fellow of American College of Veterinary Pharmacists, a lifetime member of the National Community Pharmacists Association and a member of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, and the South Carolina Pharmacists Association.  Jay and his wife Sherrie have been regular attendees of the ACA/ACVP conferences for many years.

Ben Smith graduated from pharmacy school at the University of Toronto in 1966 and purchased his first pharmacy in 1979 in a small community in Ontario.  From there he eventually opened eleven more, mostly in small communities.  Each pharmacy has been named Ben’s Pharmacy to have a small town feeling.  Ben joined ACA in 1990 and soon after NARD - now NCPA - and ASCP in order to provide his area with the highest standard of pharmaceutical care.  Ben continues to be the only Canadian pharmacist to be an active member of these three prestigious associations.  He is also a member of the Ontario Pharmacists Association and the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association.  Ben and his wife Donna have attended many conferences over the years and have especially enjoyed the friendships and the valuable educational opportunities through the ACA.  He has served on the ACA Admission Committee for many years and plans to continue to serve the College for many years.  Ben has been married for 43 years and has three children, two of which reside in the United States, as well as three grandchildren, two of which are US citizens.  They purchased a home in Arizona to maintain their close family ties.

Tom Hunt received his B.S. degree in pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1980 and his MBA from St. Louis University in 1986. Between 1980 and 1990, Tom worked as a staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager, district manager and business consultant to franchisees.  In 1990 he purchased Lindenwood Drug. Currently Tom has ownership in two pharmacies in the St. Louis area. In addition to his responsibilities as a pharmacist, manager and owner, Hunt is an adjunct clinical instructor at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and affiliate clinical faculty at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.  Tom has served as ACA Regional Director for Region 7 for several years.  He is also a member of the Missouri Pharmacist Association, NCPA, APhA, IACP, and the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists..
